| So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old? I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them? I wonder how long people would put up with this. As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series. |

I think it's amazing that v1~3 have held in the Top 100 continuously ever since the 2nd season was announced. Normal anime don't do that when a new season is announced. It makes me wonder what would happen to the GaruPan BDs, if a second season were to be announced after the 2014 movie or something... The question is just how much longer can they hold out, with v4 amongst the now released volumes? I hope the boost is big in tomorrow's list or in Thursday's Top 100 for v1~3, and hopefully 18k+ 1st week for v4, lol. |

After figuring out the ratio, we can use Chuukoi's historical performance for the rest of the week, excluding first day sale, as a base point. Now, considering sales in the rest of the week between OreImo and Chuukoi are about the even, with OreImo up several hundreds units, multiply the base point with the ratio found in OreImo season 1 to come up with the ballpark number for season 2. |

| The only thing that chuu2 overtaking oreimo might indicate is that chuu2 has more staying power - in other words that it is likely to rank for more weeks. But we already know that chuu2 has more of that than most series do, and two days could well be a simple blip, or something like more people buying in stores rather than online over the weekend. |

However, using the assumption that pre-order dominates first day sale, we can Amazon's reorder rankings to estimate it, just like Stalker. Stalker adds some extra things to compensate for storefront and other retail sites, while we only need bare-bone Amazon's number. |

One or two ranks on the chart near the top can be and usually is thousands of copies, not mere hundreds. I mean Love Live has been close to Girlpan in terms of rank numbers, but that 3 rank gap on opening day is gonna be absolutely huuuuge, unless Girlpan is terribly understocked this time (but it doesn't look like it). Girlpan did 33.5k BDs opening week for v5, and Love Live will probably top out low-20s first week (which would already be a huge increase over previous volumes, but I'm assuming it'll be a lot more front-loaded than v1 which did 18k first week). I mean that's for the rest of the week, not first day sale which depends largely on pre-order. Second day sale onward is dominated by store-front so the number should be closer in this case ;) |

| One thing interesting is usually the thought is non-anime BD/DVDs are stronger on Sat and Sun but the last Sunday turns out to be a strong day for anime titles. Anyway, for OreImo, season 1 vol.1 sold 18k BD 5k DVD in the first week. Even if the 19k BD 2k DVD in Stalker estimate is accurate, it is still lower than that, and we know there was a period when this v1 was at #1 for days which could add substantial overestimation to the Stalker projection. A guess of 17k BD 2k DVD sounds sensible and would be a very good result considering a 20% drop in sales is usually expected for a 2nd season. |

| Btw, no one answered my question on how long a normal Limited Edition stays on market. For a strong store-front title like Love Live, they can keep the printing press running for quite a while as long as it sells over a minimum amount every week. However, there will come a time when other constraints kick in and they have to stop making new copies. I'm asking in context on vol 1 which has been out for three months and kept selling about 300 a week. If they still release vol 1 a month from now, it will reach the 30K mark. |

One thing to bear in mind is that the "Limited Edition" is often not what it means because very often the only edition you can buy for an anime show is the "Limited Editon" - almost all the titles in my BD/DVD sales post are "Limited Edition" and this appears so often that I do not bother to mention it unless the "Regular Edition" is also charted (and usually such "Regular Edition" is not even available) However, there are indeed cases when the production's best guess went wildly off and somehow they did not turn the press back on fast enough or long enough, thus resulting in the BD becoming real "limited edition". This happens to GirlPan recently and it happened to Bakemonogatari back in the early days of anime BD release. Bandai has a reputation among anime fans of being cautious for its BD print run, and its overly conservative guess is what caused the problem with GirlPan stock up till vol.3 (and many fans still complain about how Bandai only turned on the press intermittently with stingy number of additional prints far too insufficient to satisfy the demand). |
